The Rockin’ People You Meet

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

There are two kinds of workers.

One is the zombie; he or she who does what is necessary for a paycheck, cozy office, or free, unlimited copy machine access (guilty as charged on that last one).

The other kind comes alive by his or her work. You can usually tell within about five seconds that this person is either on some sort of drug you’d like the prescription for, or is living his or her life’s purpose—what some kooky Bhuddist-ish people like myself refer to as dharma. The cool thing is that this kind of worker isn’t promoting anything or pitching you something. They are naturally brilliant.

Here are five people I’ve met who fall into this most excellent category:

Jennifer Macaluso was a senior when I was a freshman in high school. I idolized her then, but didn’t know she would battle alchoholism and depression as a young adult. She was eventually able to pull her life together and become an amazing, modern-day motivational coach. Her classes have been life-changing.

Allen Finger is a yogi master (how many people get to say that?!) who studied while he was growing up with great Indian gurus in South Africa. He later founded Ishta yoga, and his meditation classes will open your eyes to your own potential. You’re pretty much guaranteed to find an inner calm, which means you can say bye-bye to those anti-anxiety meds you’re on.

Janaki Bakshi is a spiritual and certified career coach who is an amazing guide. She lives in California, but even over the phone her energy and skills will light a fire in your belly and inspire you.

Teresa Zirkle Some like to travel and plan trips, but not like Teresa. She is a die hard, master traveller who can organize an incredible and affordable trip. She started her own company where she takes city-goers on adventure vacations outside the country.

Susan Shapiro is charmingly high strung, and exceptional at teaching people how to write to get published. After taking her classes, the words and self-expression will come out of you with ease.

Carmella knows skin and is passionate about giving you the best treatment. She will take one look at your face and let you know how you can improve your outer and inner beauty. She has her own day spa downtown with her husband. It is definitely worth checking out.

There are many more of these characters in the city whom you have met, I’m sure. Maybe you’re one yourself! Please share them here. Hopefully, we can spread a little dharma around and find our own kick-butt purpose in the process.
